The Chronicles of Narnia books are finally being made into full-length movies. Andrew Adamson, co-director of Shrek and Shrek 2 will be directing; Peter Jackson’s WETA Workshops has signed on to build much of the set; and Disney will co-finance and distribute it.
The big question, especially since Disney is involved, is whether it will be secularized, or whether the Chrisitan elements of the books will remain intact. Douglas Gresham, co-producer and stepson of C. S. Lewis has promised not to “change the words of the master.” I’m hoping that he can keep his promise. I’ve been especially interested in this because I met Douglas Gresham last year when he came to Biola, and Katie stayed at his home in Ireland for a couple days the semester that she studied at Oxford.
The first movie, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is scheduled for a December 2005 release. See the first video featurette, and the second one.

I’m excited about this one. I read the Chronicles when I was in 4th grade, but don’t remember much besides this one.
They had better do as good of casting as they did with the Lord of the Rings movies.

This is a good thing. I have read all the chronicles and we have all of them in video in our church library. At least putting them in the big screen will serve as a way of sharing the message to the world. Then the pagans’ efforts to suppress it will be futile because people love to go to the movies.
