It might be justifiable in the cases of extremely long blog entries, but not normally. For me, I always click read more; I think people will want the whole entry more often than not. If you really want to keep things short on the front page, consider using Javascript to hide the rest of the comment until it gets clicked. That way people don't have to load a new page, but you have the simpler, less cluttered splash page. Also, you should consider using Textile to style your comments. http://textism.com/tools/textile/ It allows much more flexibility without opening up to the dangers of allowing HTML. It's what Typo uses, and I like it a lot. I'm sure there's a PHP module to get you that functionality. One other comment is that I’m not a big fan of ‘click here to read more’ on the front page.
