Announcing the long-overdue redesign of my portfolio site, Blue Sphere Studios, version 4. Or 3, depending on how you look at it. I wrote a couple of posts back that I kept starting and scrapping designs for this redesign, and you can see some of the earlier designs that I worked on here in the past versions page. It’s a little rough around the edges, and any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

  1. Wow; I love the new look! (Having a gallery of past versions is a fun nostalgia walk, if a little self-indulgent. But I am guilty too.)

    A couple thoughts….

First, thanks for listing me as a partner! I prefer using http://technomancy.us, not http://www.technomancy.us, but whatever. Maybe you should put your hosting company on partners?

Second, it seems a little awkward the way selecting new sites in your portfolio works. Since you can select different options in your web portfolio and keep viewing the same item on the print portfolio it seems a little disorienting. My suggestion would be that you should show all the thumbnails for print and web, but don’t show details on the print portfolio unless someone has explicitly clicked on one of the print thumbnails. Likewise only show explanations of web projects if a web project has been clicked. Otherwise you’re showing more than what the user asked for.

Also, on the splash page it seems the “More in the about section” and “more in the resume section” are a bit redundant. The links are in the sidebar after all. If you put the links into sentences in the opening paragraph, those links might not stand out as much.

On the whole, it’s a fantastic new look, and I like it a lot.
