I got a call from Lem over the weekend telling me that he just got a text from Oliver saying that he made it out alive. Later I got an e-mail from Oliver himself describing a little bit about his experiences.

Oliver has been on a trip overseas for the past 3 weeks, and this past week he had been in a remote village that they had to helicopter into. He stayed with a village family, ate their food (which included grubs…cooked and not cooked), and as an added bonus, shared their ailments. Yep, a double-whammy even: he got malaria AND pink eye. Both of those were present when we used to live in Davao, but cases were really rare. He’s back in a larger city now, debriefing and resting up. Just pray for his complete recovery. He says he’ll be up in the Bay Area sometime soon to show pictures and video–it sounds like he’ll have a lot to talk about.

Sorry for the vagueness. Sensitive areas and sensitive work.
