New Computer! Pentium 150 mhz!
I was perusing my backups this morning and found this gem of an e-mail that I sent to my friend Daniel back in 1997. I was 17 and a computer geek.

Well I’m typing again…on our very own, BRAND NEW COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Finally after four long years of enduring a laptop 486, the Malabuyo’s have actually purchased a good computer–with a CD-ROM drive even! Have you bought your new computer yet? Here’s ours (which I won’t get to use much, since I’ll be away from it most of the time)
Pentium 150 mhz
2.1 Gigabyte hard drive
16 MB RAM
3-CD changer, 6X
28.8 modemMan Daniel, this is faster, better, everything more than I have ever worked with. I still can’t beleive all that room we have on the hard drive–and it’s not even double spaced yet! (We don’t even have dos–lost it in the great hard drive crash)
This won’t be funny to some of the kiddies, but I just think it’s funny how excited I was about the computer. Because, you know, 2.1 GB of space is crazy. Before double-spacing, even.
Oh how far we’ve come in 12 years. Just to give some perspective, the iPhone 3GS has a 600 mhz processor and 256 MB of RAM.

This is just awesome. Man, 2.1 whole gigabytes! I can’t imagine who would ever need that much space … ;-)
Ha ha! I’m impressed that you had a 3-CD changer. That was definitely an awesome step up from a 486. I remember when we first got to Davao I was the envy of everyone since I was the only one with a Pentium computer (that one was 66 MHz, one of the first to come out).
My favorite feature of my first computer was the turbo switch that kicked it up to 16 MHz from 12! Seriously though a 3-CD changer? What luxury!
The 3-cd changer sounds cool, but in reality it ended up being a pain. It took forever to change cds, and you forget which cds are in there after a while.
While my family had this state-of-the-art beast at home, I took the old 486 DX/66 to college. I had to connect with the external 14.4 modem since Simpson College didn’t have broadband yet.
Brandon, I remember huddling around your 386 with friends and playing Wolfenstein 3d! That is, when we weren’t on AOL.
